Default Ele/D build for Random Arena

After countless hours of Random Arena and messing with all classes, this has become one of my favorite build in RA. I love it coz it has both offensive and defensive abilities, so your not dependent on someone healing you, nor you dont suck in dmg.

Elemental/Dervish:

Air magic 5: For 100% sure Gale knockdown
Earth magic 12+1+3
Energy 9+3
Earth Prayers 8: so mystic regeneration is +3

Stone Daggers: 2x29dmg
Gale: knockdown for 3s
Aftershock: 105+72dmg
Sandstorm: 42dmg/s + 31 to enemies attacking
Mystic Regeneration: +3 rege from every enchanment
StoneFlesh Aura: 21s/33 dmg reduction
Earth Attunement: gives some energy back
Resurrection Signet

I start the match by running as first. I put Earth Attunment, StoneFlesh Aura and Mystic Regeneration on. Now i have +9 hp rege and good dmg reduction.
I go close to enemy and use Sandstorm. Normally enemy would run away from it, but i use right after that Gale, that knocks the enemy down. Then I use Aftershock that gives a nice amount of dmg when the enemy is knocked down. SandStorm is making dmg all the time ofc. At this point enemy is at very low hp and then I use couple of Stone Daggers to take away the last of HP.

I would replace Gale with Shock, you have to be close to the target to deal damage with Aftershock anyways.

The way I see it, you may not really need to add Mystic Regeneration unless you are countering "conditions". Replacing it with Armor of Earth may slow you speed a bit, but greatly reduces incoming damage. I note you have StoneFlesh Aura, which is always sweet to have.

I've seen something like this run before.. horridly annoying to kill, it's doable but hard, Mystic Regen can really make a difference...

kinetic armor>stoneflesh aura
its not hard at all to keep active, and provides more damage reduction (most of the time)

If you run any bow ranger builds, you should have Distracting and Savage Shot at the least. Throw Distracting on Daggers and Savage on energy management and they are toast.

Superior Energy Storage runes make me want to throw up.

I'm not really afraid of Geos without Obsidian Flame...though in fairness, I'm not really afraid of Geos period. It is fun to watch retards kill themselves in Sandstorm though.

Peace,

The big downside of running a build like this is a total lack of utility. The only thing you have to offer other than mediocre damage is gale spam which is really only a short term thing. When I come across these in arenas I either:

A) Ignore them, they're not going to kill anything as long as you don't /dance in their sandstorm

B) Play as a glyph of renewal + shatter enchant mesmer and laugh like a naked teenager in a field full of pussywillows.

Not really. Both have their own uses.

Kinetic armor -
Good for non armor ignoring damage. Backfire, Obsidian Flame will bypass the armor.

Stoneflesh Aura -
All damage will be reduced to x amount and it includes armor ignoring damage.

If you keep both ups. The warrors will have hard time on killing you

that's nice... but who's to say that they'll even try? eventually, probably after a sandstorm, they'll figure out that you're no fun to wail on, so they'll move on to a softer target, and there really isn't much YOU can do about it.

Or if they have half a brain they'll completely ignore you as soon as they see stoneflesh until the rest of your team is dead.

Throw SS in a big battle and everyone on the other side is screwed. It's not about AOE damage and ppl can just run out, it really starts to get chaotic and the time the other team use to run = death for them. It's very efficient in AB, but then again, it's AB -.-

Its suprising how many people stay in Sandstorm until its too late
But one of the main ideas i have with this build is that I target an enemy who is at the moment standing still. For example attacks me. I use Sandstorm and of course most people notice it and runs away, but right after the sandstorm i use Gale to knock them down in to that sandstorm. So its at least 4 seconds in that storm. When the enemy is knockdown i use Aftershock to deal alot of dmg and then finish with stonedaggers.
Alot of times enemy dies on that "combo".

So the idea isnt just to play with luck and hope that the enemy kills him self /dancing in the Sandstorm

But its true that sometimes it becomes a problem when i use Stoneflesh aura that enemies just ignore me. Then its harder to use the "plan". But ill try to find someone whos standing still and attacking another team mate.

Of course shatter enchanment mesmer owns this class (and Dervish that uses Grenths Avatar etc.) , but thats the thing i love in this game, there is no invincible build.
